Price Center is a the "mall" of UCSD. Major expansion was completed in Spring 2008, which added room for many new restaurants and meeting spaces. As of Fall 2008, some restaurants are still in the process of opening.
There is an enclosed food court at the Price Center, making this important among the PlacesToEat. They have several fast-food options:
Rubio's Baja Grill
- Santorini Island Grill
- Tapioca Express
- An Indian Place
There used to be a Wendy's at the Price Center but it closed in early 2007.
The Price Center also contains:
The official UCSD_Bookstore
- An information desk
A GameRoom
- A post office
- A travel agency (STA)
- A place to buy flowers
A small general store (The SunshineMarket)
A small computer lab (SunGodLounge)
- Credit Union, Bank of America, Washington Mutual, and Wells Fargo ATMs (just north and slightly to the east)
- Several ballrooms and meeting rooms
- A nightclub
There are often concerts in the Price Center cove (aka the PC Cove).
Back to the architecture: rumor has it the architecture is specifically designed to facilitate crowd control in order to suppress protest activity (a la UC Berkeley, for example). It's a little conspiracy-theoretic, but next time you're there check out the long narrow entrances to the circular plaza surrounded by elevated walkways and raised ground. Hmm...
The official web site for this area is here.
